NEW START DATE FOR INTRO TO VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMING - APRIL 23

STEM after school at Wood Acres

Spring 2018

The Great Adventure Lab is an after-school science enrichment program offering our classes in 50+ schools in the D.C. area. We’ve taught thousands of kids how to write their first robotics programs or video game programs (or both!). Student to adult ratio of 7:1 or better for most classes.

Intro to Video Game Programming B, Grades K-2

NEW START DATE: APRIL 23, 2018

Intro to Video Game Programming A and B are separate classes with totally different projects. Take one or both in any order, but don’t repeat either class.

With MIT’s Scratch Jr., we’ll learn how to program basic video games on iPads (provided by The GrAd Lab!) Kids will have a blast learning how to make their characters move, talk, and interact.

Areas of Exploration: Programming, Multimedia, Storytelling, Music, Logic.

Class Format: Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.

Tuition: $155 per student plus $5 materials fee per student; min 11 / max 12 students, 1 instructor, 1 aide.

 


 

 

 

Video Game Programming B, Grades 3–5

Video Game Programming A and B use the same programming platform with different projects. Students may take either or both in any order.

In Video Game Programming B, students will learn how to make characters talk and move while creating their very own games. Students with previous experience can build more complex games; students who are taking this class for the first time can master the basics.

Areas of Exploration: Programming, Multimedia, Storytelling, Music, Logic.

Class Format: Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.

Tuition: $155 tuition + $5 materials fee per student; min 11 / max 12 students, 2 instructors, no aide.

Storybook Lego, Grades K-1

Why should big kids have all the fun?  Think outside the box and return to the days before Legos came in kits.  We’ll provide the Legos and the inspiration, your children will provide the imagination!  In each class the instructor will read a story and then inspire the students to build some of the scenes characters out of Legos.

Areas of Exploration: 3D spatial visualization

Class Format: Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.

Tuition: $125 per student; min 11 / max 14 students. Parent aide for full class gets free tuition.

 

 

 

Young Engineers, Grades 3-5

We’ll  learn basic engineering concepts by designing, building and testing bridges, egg drops, catapults and more!

Areas of Exploration: Engineering, Physics.

Class Format: Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.

 

Tuition: $145 tuition plus $30 materials fee per student; min 11 / max 14 students.  Parent aide for full class gets free tuition but must pay $30 materials fee.


 

 We are an LLC based in Silver Spring, MD. We are fully insured and our instructors have passed background checks including FBI and state fingerprinting.



Room numbers TBD. Instructor will send welcome email several days before class.
